Weighing in on wonder
Is the Taj Mahal worthier of regard than Stonehenge? Does the throng on Easter Island deserve to play also-ran to Christ the Redeemer? Such deliberation brewed following the proclamation of the New Seven Wonders of the World, decided by 100 million online votes. The winners, shown here, were heralded at a glitzy Lisbon ceremony before a crowd of 50,000 peppered with international celebrities.
Whiffs of discontent soon drifted from the design community. Too politically motivated or subject to skewing by partisans, some sniffed. Others surveyed the champs and wondered, Where's the wonder? To keep stirring the pot, we queried three decision-makers at Interior Design Giant firms for a reaction. Callison principal Dawn Clark, Gensler senior associate Evelyn Fujimoto, and HOK senior vice president Pamela Light, also president of the IIDA, all have choice words on the choices.
