The Merchandise Mart unveiled its luxurious show house with the exhibit Dream Home: The Design House. Open to the public from September 22 through December 22, 2006, benefitting the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation Women's Board.
Douglas Hoerr Landscape Architecture, plus and eight interior design firms—all Chicago based—illustrate what can happen when great design expertise and unlimited budget meet the Merchandise Mart’s boundless resources. With function and square footage being the only limitations, each design firm worked independently to design, document, and procure everything on site.
Nate Berkus designed the foyer; Eva Quateman designed the library, and Marshall Morgan Erb did the livingroom. Athelie Derse created a luxurious bath, Kara Mann designed the bedroom, and David Kaufman and Tom Segal turned out a lavish yet contemporary kitchen. Rounding out the dream home is a dining room by Tom Stringer, and a family room by Heather G. Wells and Bruce Fox.
