The Industrial Designers Society of America and BusinessWeek Magazine have opened the Industrial Design Excellence Award competition to international entries—for the first time in 23 years. (In the past, the competition considered stateside applicants only.)
Intended to foster business and public understanding of the impact of design on quality of life, the IDEA competition recognizes objects ranging from household products to cars. The 16 judges are to focus on innovation, human factors, benefit to the client/business, ecological responsibility, and aesthetic appeal. Entries for 2004 will be accepted through February 10.
