Square, checkerboard, diamond, or running-bond patterns characterize this manufacturer's 30 new custom rug concepts in leather panels. Options include over-stitched, blind, or laced seams as well as bindings in suede, leather, or animal hair. 979 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10022; 800-833-0667; pfmcarpet.com .
This custom manufacturer of tightly-knotted rugs and carpeting offers Riverbed, adapted from a painting by designer Joe Carini. The red is madder, a vegetable dye. Moss green (with bronze) and aqua (with brown) are among other possibilities. 335 Greenwich Street, New York, NY 10013; 646-613-0497; carinilang.com .

At New York's Whitney Museum of American Art, designer Teddy Sumner discovered patchwork quilts from Gee's Bend, Alabama. Sumner's American Primitive–E104 quotes the careworn nobility of those quilts, with blocks of hand-spun vegetable-dyed wool. 578 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10012; 212-431-9009; michaelian.com .
Indigo and cochineal dye the wool yarn used for Steps, made according to the Soumak techniques of Turkman master weavers. These rugs are produced in the Hunza Valley of Pakistan, by women who—unusually for the region—are paid the same wage as men. 3710 Silver Avenue SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108; 505-265-0144; joanweissman.com .

San Francisco designer April Sheldon cropped the lacy medallion on her wool-and-silk Set rug to invoke a setting sun. The lush red background refers, she says, to brilliant vermilion skies at twilight. Custom colors are available, too. 135 Vermont Street, San Francisco, CA 94103; 415-553-8504; agajohncarpets.com .
The happy hippie Beachnik wool runner began as a paper collage by fashion designer Gene Meyer. Steering clear of the earth tones common in Nepalese rugs, Meyer uses custom-dyed Himalayan yarns in his signature pop palette. M&M Design International, 226 Westbury Avenue, Carle Place, NY 11514; 516-876-8989; mandmgallery.com .
Polar is an architectural custom carpet in a color that designer Vidal Sasson calls gray sky. Produced in Nepal, the sheared geometrics stand proud on a low background of hand-knotted loops. 2600 Netherland Avenue, Suite 1822, Riverdale, NY 10463; 718-432-8100; rug-art.net .
The Lamontage collection of felted rugs features an eye-popping 600 hues. "Color," says Liora Manné, "is the key to my design process." But not to her new showroom. Manné hired minimal-minded Janson Goldstein because, she says, "We needed a bit of quiet!" The architects supplied white walls and dark-stained wood cabinets and shelves. Manné did the rest, installing the rugs alongside a carefully curated riot of her new handbags, lamp shades, place mats, and limited-edition furniture. 91 Grand Street, New York, NY 10013; 212-965-0302; lioramanne.com .
Swirly, a Himalayan wool rug by creative director Tyler Hays, began as a doodle with a Sharpie marker. And the lines do look sharp. Lanolin in the wool, however, will eventually lend heirloom softness. 5 Crosby Street, New York, NY 10013; 212-625-1230; bddw.com .
Rugs in the Plus collection comprise materials from paper yarn to recycled bicycle inner tubes. One more curiosity? Caura d'Alp custom rugs handwoven from strips of domestic goats' scruffy pelts. P.O. Box 50, Allendale, NJ 07401; 239-573-3400; ruckstuhl.com.
