First there was this klismos-style side chair by Berlin architect David Gilly, who taught Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Then came the Milwaukee Art Museum's "Biedermeier: The Invention of Simplicity," in which the beech chair appears. Now the British manufacturer Viennese Biedermeier Quality Furniture is reproducing the chair in polished cherrywood, without the brilliant gold braid but with the same traditional Austrian craftsmanship.
