Road to Utopia

The Howard Gilman Foundation recently donated its collection of 103 utopian, visionary architectural drawings to the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The foremost assemblage of its genre, the collection features works by Rem Koolhaas, Gaetano Pesce, Peter Eisenman, and Ceric Price that capture the raw, creative experimentation of the architectural ideation process. "It's unusual for a private entity to collect architectural drawings in such depth and with that kind of specificity," according to MoMA's Terence Riley. The museum's current exhibit, Architecture Hot and Cold, showcases sixteen pieces from the Gilman collection. For information, call (212) 708-9400 or visit moma.org.
