ICFF Preview: 8 Designers to Watch For
Rebecca Thienes and Mark McMenamin -- Interior Design, 4/1/2013 2:00:00 AM
1. Designer: Eric Weil for Oso Industries
Standout: Teaming with Situ Studio, this Brooklyn-based designer’s concrete wall tile derives from Islamic girih patterns and comes in four standard, as well as custom, colors.
2. Designer: Mary Wallis
Standout: A motion-sensitive homage to De Stijl architecture, the mobile’s aluminum-encased, hand-spliced neon tubes come in custom colors and configurations.
3. Designer: Brendan Ravenhill
Standout: The simplicity of this chair’s name is equal to that of its design: Cushioned linen upholstery and a richly grained oak frame form a straight forward silhouette.
4. Designer: Pete Oyler for Assembly
Standout: Robustness rules this table: A salvaged-marble top rests on a blackened-steel frame, which is in turn attached to hefty ash legs.
5. Designer: Elliot Eakin for Lakes + Wells
Standout: Although appearing to have cracked, the occasional table’s 15-inch-diameter top is remarkably sturdy: The tripod base supports each of the three silicon-bronze sections independently.
6. Designer: Laila Ahmadinejad for Proper Rugs
Standout: As if cast from light above, geometric figures shadow the wool and silk ground of the hand-knotted Tibetan rug.
7. Designers: Rebecca Asquith and Tim Wigmore for Designtree
Standout: Shades of recycled polyester read natty and natural when they join New Zealand beech in a floor lamp and pendant fixtures.
8. Designer: David Okum for Okum Made
Standout: Minimalist desktop accessories yield maximum impact when rendered in solid aluminum, American walnut, solid surfacing, or white maple.
