Inspired by Africa
A couple of years ago I designed an apartment for a client who considered himself a global nomad. He was born in India, raised in England, and spent much of his life in Africa. I loved this challenge, and got right into bringing elements of specifically Africa and India into the decor. I discovered the incredibly bright patterned wax cloth fabric from the Dutch company Vlisco and was immediately taken with everything about them: the colors, the patterns, the quirky graphics. We only used these beautiful fabrics as accents, but I definitely could have been more adventurous, which is why I love this line of furniture from Moroso.
The Binta chair by Philippe Bestenheider takes its shape from the solidly grounded baobab tree and is also inspired by the heavy wood carved furniture found in Africa while the upholstery is based on Senegalese patchwork fabrics.
