b.d. (Barcelona Design)
I had a meeting with Jordi Arnau of b.d. (Barcelona Design) last week. It is always fun seeing him and I enjoy hearing him wax poetic about the designers who make up the collection for b.d. I get excited about the line that Jaime Hayon designed for them, but I am deeply intrigued and drawn to the collection by Salvador Dali. I had seen the Dali line before but was not as taken by it–mainly because of the materials that were used.
It’s a bizarre line of furniture that was originally produced in wood, but for 2009 they are commemorating the 20th anniversary of this eccentric artist by producing the pieces in black. Even the cast brass has an aged black patina. They used satin for the upholstery and chiffon for the lingerie-like lamp shades. This new “goth” look really brings out the quirkiness of this collection, and has made me sit up and take a second look.
