Artek's 2nd cycle furniture
It’s like a riddle: "Which is greener- a new product made from eco materials or an old product given a 2nd life?" It’s easy to ask "what is it made of?" and be ecologically satisfied if the answer includes the words "bamboo," "recycled," or "carbon neutral." But leave it to Alvar Aalto’s design legacy at Artek to put a new, subtle design on spin that makes the old beautiful and relevant again, and doesn’t toot its own "green" horn in the process.
The 2nd cycle collection is literally a re-harvesting of Aalto’s iconic furniture from centuries ago, re-inventoried, and re-sold, just as they are, scratches and all. Let’s be honest, isn’t your favorite material possession something embedded with meaning, stories, nicks, and dents? Here’s to Artek for making heirlooms marketable.
