NYC Pier 57's Shipping Container Design Revival
LOT-EK, the design firm known for their shipping container configurations that make gorgeously modular buildings, was recently selected to revive New York City’s Pier 57. In collaboration with developer Young Woo, the team will transform the Pier into a multi-function park, market, and public space, entirely made from shipping containers. The containers will frame both inhabitable spaces and walkways. YoungWoo, who is known for his development of artist-friendly spaces, has helped develop the program to include work-sell spaces for local artisans, which will encourage a creative economy and also bring in revenue for the Pier.
Also included in the plan is an indoor educational space, an "Underwater Discovery Center", and a place for the Tribeca Film Festival to host screenings.
