LOTO Lamp Made from Plastic Debris
Eugenio Menjivar, an industrial designer from El Salvador, has taken reclaimed materials to a new level for me, elevating it beyond the DIY aesthetics that scream "craft fair" to high design. In particular, his LOTO lamp is inspired by the organic forms of lotus flowers, but makes use of plastic debris found in the open water. Eugenio describes the series as "an eco-experimental body of work that transforms discarded household materials into precious objects, allowing plastic to be reborn to educate consumers about sustainable design." The transformation from floating plastic debris to an illuminated lotus is nothing less than poetic. Visit his website here.
