ASID Foundation Announces Transform
Got research? Searching for grant funding? The ASID Foundation may be the ticket you're looking for.
Believing that the design of inspiring interior spaces can literally change the world, the ASID Foundation is committed to fostering innovative and creative thinking and research about the effects of interior design on human behavior.
Hence, the launch of the launch of "Transform, the Interior Design Research Grant Program," which, in its inaugural year, will award up to three grants of up to $35,000 each. Research proposals from interior designers, scientists and educators on "How interior design impacts human behavior" are being accepted through November 15, 2010.
Intuitively we know that the work we do as designers has a profound impact on the occupants of buildings. We know that interior design transforms environments in ways that improve life, are aesthetically pleasing, and are spiritually enriching. Interior designers are ethical and socially, environmentally responsible professionals who design, renovate, and provide design services that transform built environments.
The time has come to collect the data and document the evidence. The Foundation is seeking research proposals that have practical applications for both interior designers and their clients yet reach beyond proposals of basic research, historic research of literature reviews. Grants may be used for research, projects, and/or as seed/start-up funds for a larger project. Evaluation of proposals is weighted toward innovative, collaborative projects and new thinking.
As the chair of the ASID Board of Trustees I was quoted in the grant program press release: "The Interior Design Research Grant Program is a great gift to the industry and it couldn't come at a better time. The influx of new research will provide us more insight into the power of interior design, and the science behind it."
Couldn't have said it better myself. The need is obvious, the money is here. Go for it.
