Making Trash Less Trashy
One effective way of bringing attention to the overlooked: cover it in beautiful wallpaper. Italian artist Christine Finley recently took to the streets and turned ordinary garbage dumpsters into works of art for her Wallpapered Dumpster Project. In an effort to draw attention to the exorbitant amounts of refuse produced by urban populations, she gathered leftover wallpaper and applied "polite graffiti" to the everyday objects. The project garnered much attention from passersby and creative commentators, as it brought environmental activism to the masses through a simple act. Finley has also decorated dumpsters in Los Angeles, New York, and other European cities. She also went so far as to create a "How To" video to encourage others to wallpaper the trash dumpsters in their own towns. Visit Christine's website for more info.
